FEBRUARY 6,1981 Price 10c Per Cop; The Polk Central-Mitchell Basketball games were played Wednesday night at Polk Central The Mitchell JVs won 71-53; Mitchell girls won 57-50 and the Mitchell boys took a 61-47 decision. "Hooper" will be on Ch. 7 Sunday at 8 p m. Bill Kerby, son of Mr and Mrs. Joe Kerby of Tryon wrote the movie script for "Hooper". Bill is a graduate of Tryon High School and Kent State University. If any church is interesting in sponsoring a volleyball team in the Green Creek Ruritan League, send a representative to the meeting at the Green Creek Community Bldg. Saturday at 3 pm. The Polk County Little League organizational meeting is Sunday at3p m. at the Tryon Town Hall The Tryon-Polk Central basketball game that was cancelled last Friday due to weather conditions will be played Saturday at Polk Central. “Our Answer To 60 Minutes” At Rotary Today The Tryon Rotary Club will meet today at 12:30 p m. at the Pacolet River Plantation. A film, “Our Answer to 60 Minutes" will be shown by John Lewis. Tryon Manager of Duke Power Co. The film was produced by the Illinois Power and Light Company. It’s Cookie Time! The 1981 Girl Scout Cookie Sale will begin Saturday. Feb 14th. The girls sell the cookies to raise money for troop and council-wide programs. Some of the programs the Cookie Sale supports are extended camping trips, visits to the other cities and states, special service projects, etc. Cookie funds also support the development and maintenance of Camp Pisgah and other council facilities. The 1981 sale includes many of the traditionals and two new specialties — Old Fashioned Oatmeal andSumores. For more information contact Vickie Lanning at 894-3223. Gay Blades Meet Thursday The Gay Blades Garden Club will meet on Thursday, Feb. 12th in the Fine Arts Center at 3:15 to hear Mrs. Kenneth Fredericks program entitled, "Birds" The hostesses will be Mrs. Clifford Fardig and Mrs. Phillip Jones. Meet Monday The Columbus Town Council will meet Monday at 7 p m. at the Columbus Town Hall. The Tryon Town Council will meet Monday at 7:30 p.m at the Tryon Town ilall. The Polk County Board of Education will meet Monday at 7:30 p m. in the vocational building at Polk Central Higli School. “Beans’’ In Landrum Opera, rock, gospel, folk and jazz — the "human beans" sing it all! They also dance up a storm, dancing everything from a soft shoe to the rhumba. "Beans" make you laugh and they make you think They explore the problem of communication and how we learn to relate to one another through the adventures they have as "human beans " This program is being toured in South Carolina by Stage South, the performing arts program of the South Carolina Arts Commission. 0. P. Earle School is sponsoring this program in Landrum on Thursday. February 12 at 8:00 p.m. in the Landrum High School gym "Beans" is an original musical comedy for persons of all ages. It is a lighthearted history lesson of sorts, cleverly exploring the development of human communication through the ages as seen through the eyes of beans. Further information needed may be obtained by calling 457-3416 Sandy Plains Community Watch Tuesday at 7:30 The Sandy Plains Community Watch group will meet Tuesday night at 7:30 at the Sandy Plains Fellowship Hall to organize their Community Watch. A member of the sheriff's department will be on hand to provide all the details and information needed for an effective organization A committee composed oi Clyde Hensley. Woodrow Bridges, Otho Swain. Joyce Smitn, Raphael Foy and Chester Griffin have convassed the area and report nearly 100% enthusiasm. Everyone living in that area should plan to attend to develop and promote a vital working unit. If you were missed in the canvass, make an extra effort to attend to insure your participation in the program. Appearance Commission The Appearance Commission will meet Thursday at 3:30 p m. in the courthouse annex The Appearance Commission meets the second Thursday of each month. At Peniel Church On Sunday, Feb. Sth at 7 p m. the film "Heavenly Deception" will be shown at the Peniel Baptist Church This film was not shown last Sunday due to weather conditions
